I think vast majority of fish would be caught with nets, like 99.99% of fish that you can buy.

Wow, that looks quite extensive, thanks! You could do good work in academic research :)

Aytundra your table looks very useful, maybe you can share it here?

Re: Coronavirus
This virus is somewhat more infectious than common flu, and it's much stronger outside a host. The sun isn't really effective at deactivating it at all, so we are stuck with it even in summer. Spreading is exponential, those 79k will multiply many times by the end of the year. Without the social dis...

Re: Coronavirus
I see that they have added information about the number of tests here, there's new columns in the table with countries: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ UK, France, Netherlands, Sweden have quite a bit less testing in comparison to Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Italy. Fresh paper about the...

Re: Coronavirus
With those numbers I can imagine that Netherlands is testing only dead people posthumously (or people in extremely bad condition). If we assume the real ratio across countries to be similar, then Netherlands probably has similar number of cases as Germany. According to the tv news, things are alread...

Re: Coronavirus
I wonder if one could make reasonably accurate predictions on how good or bad things will go in countries and the world in aggregate based on these statistics plus information on lockdown duration and such. Probably wallstreet is doing calculations like this to "beat" the markets.

Re: Coronavirus
Thanks for clarifying RRM, those are very good points I didn't consider at all. The lockdowns cannot go on forever so it's not clear how this will continue developing. Possibly for years we'll be stuck with masks, controlled shopping in the stores, minimal tourism, disinfecting everything, anxiety w...

Re: Coronavirus
It definitely affects way of life around here. I've reduced going to the supermarket like once in 1-2 weeks, canceled appointments and trips, work is now full remote (although it already was 90% remote before as well). Basically we're trying to stay home as much as it's possible and go out only when...

Re: Coronavirus
I think trying to do any analysis based on the reported statistics is futile and cannot be trusted. Each country is testing in varying ways and has different capacities for testing, and probably counting deaths by non-standard criteria. I doubt there's a standardized method followed internationally....

Re: Wai baby
I joined this club as well now with a 3 month old at home :)
Don't think my wife will *ever* allow me to give him raw egg yolks though.
I myself have been off the wai diet since many years, although I generally eat healthy paleoish foods - not that far off wai, but generally cooked.

Re: Misunderstood milk
> Growth hormones are digested in the body anyway is there any evidence for this? The most troubling stuff in milk is perhaps casomorphins and other opioid proteins. I have a small baby now and as I've observed, whenever he drinks milk he's in a bliss for some minutes (very similar to how people tha...

Re: Sleep Debt | Hours of Sleep per Night
1) 7-8 hours 2) 8 3) the lower than 8 the worse 4) I just try to go to sleep earlier. My debt doesn't come from not sleeping on purpose, I never use an alarm either. Usually it's from going to bed later, but still waking up the same usual time I'm used to (e.g. 6:00), even though I didn't put any al...

Re: Farmed salmon feed
A week ago I watched this really good documentary, showing just how toxic farmed salmon is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYYf8cLUV5E
I'm really wary of eating any sort of salmon any more. I think mackerel should be fine, as long as it's not from the Baltic sea.
