All the fruits/veggies listed are assessed with the skin intact, not peeled. If you cannot afford organic apples, for example, you should peel the skin in order to avoid the high pesticidal load. I reckon onions and avocados aren't as bad due to the fact that they do not attract insects to begin with, so therefore little to no pesticide is used.Oscar wrote:Too bad they didn't compare all the fruits peeled and non-peeled, or at least note whether they are peeled or not.

The Shopper's Guide to Pesticides ranks pesticide contamination for 47 popular fruits and vegetables based on an analysis of 87,000 tests for pesticides on these foods, conducted from 2000 to 2007 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. Nearly all the studies used to create the list test produce after it has been rinsed or peeled.

WOW, I totally forgot about reading this important part, thanks for bringing it up again. I know it's been rinsed when they tested it, but I overlooked the part where they say 'or peeled.' This is disheartening...They changed the text, but (my emphasis):The Shopper's Guide to Pesticides ranks pesticide contamination for 47 popular fruits and vegetables based on an analysis of 87,000 tests for pesticides on these foods, conducted from 2000 to 2007 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration.
