Defeathering a chicken by putting it in boiling water
Is that a form of cooking?

What do you think?

As far as i know, it goes in and immediately out of the water again,
so that maximally, only the skin gets somewhat cooked.
My father used roasting; an open flame.
Again, just for (maybe not even) a second.

I think the feathers act as a barrier, no? I just saw videos of farmers gutting a chicken and some of them use their bare hands! What if they have an open wound? That's how diseases spread. It makes me think whether its really safe to eat meat.RRM wrote:As far as i know, it goes in and immediately out of the water again,

Thats not part of the process of commercially sold chicken, so dont woryy.Kookaburra wrote:I just saw videos of farmers gutting a chicken and some of them use their bare hands!
In commercial production lines there are no 'farmers with open wounds' cutting up the chicken.

What about meat sold at farmers' market? The farmers gut the chickens themselves and then sell them directly.RRM wrote:Thats not part of the process of commercially sold chicken, so dont woryy.Kookaburra wrote:I just saw videos of farmers gutting a chicken and some of them use their bare hands!

Here's a video of a farmer gutting a chicken. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIbm3oU6 ... re=related

Well, that depends on the skills of that farmer (no 'mixing' of feces and meat, for example).
So, to be safe, you may just buy in a supermarket with a very good reputation (a little more expensive, maybe).
