Raw prawn? Clams?
I searched Waisays, the free acne book, and the old forums but there were nothing mentioned about prawns. Are they okay to eat raw?
At least one specie is very safe to eat raw. (and a few more are often consumed raw as well)

Most species are not safe, as they are scavengers accumulating toxins.
Pandalus Borealis, however, is safe.
Its Ama Ebi in Japanese; 'Greenland prawn', caught in the north-west Atlantic ocean.
The entire catch is bought by the Japanese every year,
and some of that is sold to other countries. (peeled and frozen)

The funny thing about prawns is that particularly cooked and hand-peeled prawns are contaminated with St. Aurees
(1 to 2 mm wide shiny convex black colonies),
and involved with a staphylo-enterotoxicosis.
Thats because the production of toxins occurs once the prawn is deteriorating.
When you eat raw prawns, a 'bad' prawn tastes bad,
but when you cook it first, you may not taste the difference.
Shallow water prawns (not the Greenland prawns) and also clams caught in shallow salt water,
may be contaminated with Vibrio parahaemolyticus
It multiplies in the range of 20-40°C, and can sometimes survive deep freezing.
Infection symptoms (up to a week max): stomach aches, diarrhea, fatigue and throwing up.

small clams and shrimp
well i got some very small clams and pre-peeled shrimp. i had an option between shrimp with shell intact and peeled but i took the peeled. mabye the shell intact shrimp would have tasted better? it was slimy and kind of tasteless; ended up giving up and boiling it for 2 minutes. the small clams were a pain in the ass to open, it tasted alright but i ate it with that muddy stuff inside (who knows what that is). I then realized i needed to clean it after suffering to open each one; gave up and boiled those for 2 minutes as well.
has anyone ate small shrimps and clams before or is it only worthwhile to go big?

Its not safe to eat just any shrimp, or clams.
Greenland prawns (Ama Ebi) and surfclams (Hokkigai) are okay. (see below.

Is it safe to eat raw, peeled, frozen pink shrimp? Like those frozen bags they sell in supermarkets.

They are not raw, they're cooked.. There are raw pink shrimp but they're rarer, and not usually sold in big bags.. They're sold for sushi..

Yesterday I just bought a bag of frozen non-pink shrimp... and I dried them at 63º for 5 hours. Are they safe to eat now? (If they're not, I'll cook them for someone else, won't be wasting).
