"Naturally" organic Brazil nuts?

Post by mballinger »

It's my understanding that all Brazil Nuts come from "wild" (uncultivated) trees and that any attempts at growing brazil nuts commercially have not been successful.

So wouldn't all in-shell Brazil Nuts then be "Organic"?

My impression was that they are also collected from planted trees, but are mostly picked in the rainforrest.

I'm referring to "Organic" as applied to foods grown without the use of added chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc. ... all the criteria that is taken into consideration in designating a food item "certified organic."

I'm trying to figure out if I should pay extra money for certified organic in-shell brazil nuts ... or if I'm safe with in-shell brazil nuts which aren't designated certified organic. I don't want to pay extra for a label if the brazil nuts are a wild food and just as good as the nuts with the "Certified Organic" label.

Well, most of them are wild foods indeed, and therefore organically grown, so i think you are always safe.
The price of Brazil nuts is too low to make any costs regarding the planted trees (fertilizer and stuff). So, all costs the whole salers make are the costs of collection, transportation and so on.

Thanks very much. It's another reason I like using brazils over other nuts.

An other issue is ionisation or irradiation. In europe Organic ("Bio") exclud this traitment. The nuts from France are often ionised if not organic and Brazil is pro-ionisation. But meaby are Brazilnuts specials.
I dont know further.

Brazil nuts are naturally slightly radio-active, as is the rainforrest.

Wow Oscar, what a very very quick reply. Thanks a lot!! :)
These nuts are peeled, but you are sure they're "Waiproof"?
That would be awesome!
