Im sick >.< flu

Post by Quix »

So I started the diet on January 1st (very fitting), the first week was fairly easy, not many cravings, was never very hungry. Just to put out there the basics, I am a 23 male, 5'7 150 lbs. Been eating a Liter of OJ with 4 tablespoons of OO, 1-2 avocados, 2-3 tomatoes, about 4 inches of cucumber, 1-2 bananas, one or two random fruits, about 70-80g of raw fish (tuna or salmon), some raisins, about 3-5 brazil or macadamian nuts everyday.

On day 7 I got sick. No stomach pains at all now while im sick, nor from when i started the diet to this point. For some reason i doubt that this sickness is due to the diet, classic stuffed nose, achey body and fuzzy head. Btw the fuzzy head is like trickin me to think im low on energy.

Is there anything i can/should do differently while im sick? Thanks for any heads up.

It sounds like a classic cold, flu if the symptoms dont subside, rather
get stronger, within a week or two at the most.

It is most likely not due to the diet. It seems to me like you eat
good, if you are an active person, maybe a little too little?
Try the nutrient calculator.

While sick you should take it easy. Stay home from work/school
if you can, dont work out. It will pass, and your immune system will
be more fit on the other side :)

Happy healing! ;)

Thanks for the reply and encouragement.

I know its only a day later, probably the 3rd or so day of the cold and i feel a lot better. Finally got a good nights rest last night, probably a huge factor.

I found it interesting how while my cravings for 'bad' foods really only started while I was sick. For some reason I just wanted a huge burger or a lb of pasta smothered in sauce and meatballs.

Do you think there is some psychological connection between my being sick and the cravings?

There may be many connections, both
psychological and physiological.

For example, you might want to give yourself a 'treat' because
you feel bad, thus the cravings for 'treats' like junk food.

One physiological explanation is that you have a fever and sweat
alot, causing you to loose water and electrolytes, causing you to
crave salt (most junk food is salty).

I remember before I went Wai, hven being sick to my stomach
(nausea, throwing up etc.) the only thing I could eat and keep
down was toasted rye bread with fried eggs and salt :)

Glad to hear you are better! :)

Lack of enough sleep is a probable cause of getting a cold. I think it can also make you more susceptible to getting the flu from someone else.

Yes, sleep is most tightly connected to your defense system; a lack of sleep immediately results in a weaker defense.
Normally the body can fight off a virus without you even noticing it, but if your defense is less strong, thats a lot harder (resulting in coldness / flu)

Just as a follow up, I'm almost all better, just a little congestion. :)
