Swollen face/water retention/edema
Okay, so according to the Wai theory a swollen face is caused by:
1. dirty protein
2.too much protein
3. (too much) sodium (in one time)
4. too much sugar in one time
Is this right ?
And acne is caused by much sebum + swollen face.
What I don't understand is that, there are people who eat much dirty protein but still don't get any water retention?
How is that possible?

Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
No, as in general the blood sugar level is quite strictly regulated (unless its not, of course)Kasper wrote:Okay, so according to the Wai theory a swollen face is caused by:

What makes you think so?What I don't understand is that, there are people who eat much dirty protein but still don't get any water retention?
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Well,What makes you think so?
Almost nobody is eating 100% raw.
Even people who think they eat 100% raw mostly blend and so are consuming dirty protein.
But if I look around, many people don't have any water retention at all.
Concluding, many people eat dirty protein, but don't have water retention in the face.
?? I though I've read somewhere that we have to add olive oil, to preven acne? No, as in general the blood sugar level is quite strictly regulated (unless its not, of course)
But does high blood sugar levels cause acne ?
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Actually most people retain water, we're just not used to noticing it. Of course we don't have many non-retainers to compare with.
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Maybe you can copy a few pictures of people on the internet that dont have water retention?Kasper wrote:if I look around, many people don't have any water retention at all.
Its to slow down the glucose absorption rate and to make the blood sugar last longer.I though I've read somewhere that we have to add olive oil, to prevent acne?
And also to prevent acid burn / reflux.
Only in comparison to too low blood sugar levels, as undereating has 'anti-anabolic' effectsBut does high blood sugar levels cause acne ?
regarding hormones.

Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
In general, the more anabolic your hormone balance, the more acne prone.Kookaburra wrote:Huh?
Though high sugar vs low sugar reflects an 'anabolic state',
its really nothing compared to the effects of the sex hormones.
An example: though im extremely acne prone, I can perfectly tolerate continuous high sugar levels
without getting a single pimple.
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Well, this guy has a lot less water retention than I when I eat 'normal':Maybe you can copy a few pictures of people on the internet that dont have water retention?
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Well, he has some water retention just below the cheeks.
I know its not much but if he wasnt smiling it would show a little more.

Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
But do you have any idea why some people get far more water retention from dirty protein etc. than others ?
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Yeah! what causes water retention and why? is it because water binds to 'nasty stuff' to keep it dilute? and if you dont ingest 'enemies' then you dont need water to dilute them? lol
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
I think it's because of osimosis "laws." The dirty protein (or salt for a shorter period of time) ends up in the skin making the skin more... lets say "concentrated". Then, water will be attracted into the skin to balance out the concentrations.panacea wrote:Yeah! what causes water retention and why? is it because water binds to 'nasty stuff' to keep it dilute? and if you dont ingest 'enemies' then you dont need water to dilute them? lol
Also, how can you guys see the water retention? I may not be paying enough attention, but I don't see any difference lol
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
so for people with water retention, would taking the rare amino acid supplements (phenylene and the meth one I think) reduce dirty protein and therefore water retention?
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
If you stop ingesting 'dirty' protein, the water retention will disappear pretty quickly.
Re: Swollen face/water retention/edema
Yes, individual differences.Kasper wrote:But do you have any idea why some people get far more water retention from dirty protein etc. than others ?
Besides fluctuating, hormone levels differ per person.
Also the permeabiility of the intestinal mucosa is individually different,
as is the capacity to get rid of 'dirty' protein and deport excess salts.
So, all aspects involved in water retention are individually different.
The same goes for the production of sebum. Thats why some people have a bad diet and a beautiful skin.
Exactly.CSIV wrote: I think it's because of osimosis "laws."
Getting used to the mirror reflection that says "no water retention".Also, how can you guys see the water retention?
The longer you are on this diet, the more you will notice the differenece naturaly.
It would not reduce dirty protein, it may only reduce specific amino acid levels.panacea wrote:so for people with water retention, would taking the rare amino acid supplements (phenylene and the meth one I think) reduce dirty protein and therefore water retention?
Consuming relatively low quality protein, the levels of specific amino acids will be elevated.
Taking methionine and phenylalanine will enable utilization of some of those 'redundant' amino acids,
and somewhat level various amino acid levels.
This will reduce (raw protein caused) water retention to some extend.
