Is it possible that there's a correlation with 5-alpha-reductase activity in the skin and formation of acne?
A study suggests that there's significantly more 5-AR (type 1) activity in sebaceous glands in acne-prone skin, than in non-acne skin (Thiboutot et al.).
More 5-AR activity translates to more DHT production -> more inflammation (as we know from many studies on hair loss) -> acne in acne-prone people (same like hair loss in certain people)?

Re: DHT and acne
Yes. In some acne patients the level of DHT is higher, whereas in others the receptors are more responsive to the influence of DHT,
whereas in others its testosterone, or progesterone, and/or their receptors.
