It is possible that the biotin is not as important from the egg as other nutrients that it provides.

Egg yolks are a good source of biotin, so its better to discard the egg whites.
(If not, the biotin from that good source is lost)
It has been shown that biotin is essential for growth, and that when avidin is added, growth is inhibited. Sarker PK et al
