Newbie with a few questions
Hello Ive been on the diet now for a week and haven’t seen any real results but I know it may take time although my acne has stabilised to some degree as im not seeing any relatively new or large pimples. I do have severe acne since I was 15, im 22 male now, especially on my nose where the skin is just red, there’s no spots on it, just the skin has become red and I have been told it’s a deep cist. Hoping this diet will work but have a few questions. Bear in mind Imp from the West of Ireland and it can be really hard to get any natural stuff over here!
Orange juice, I am using Tropicana smooth as my orange juice and drink about a litre a day with 50ml of O.O. but was wondering if Tropicana is ok or how do you tell if the OJ has preservatives?
Cant get unshelled brazil nuts or unshelled nuts of any kind except peanuts so im not taking any and instead just using coconut meat but if anyone has a supplier for the EU will be greatly appreciated if you could forward on any supplier that might deliver to republic of Ireland but is coconut meat ok as I could eat up to 200g a day?
Mineral water can be expensive enough like everything on this diet so does filtering water work for drinking or what about filtering and boiling for washing your face?
I always smear manuka honey on my face once a day after a hot compress, is this ok? I found its great for skin.
As with other people I have concerns about weight loss as im 5' 7'' and weigh 116lbs (8 stone), im literally super skinny so gaining weight has always been a priority in my life but just cant seem to. But from reading posts it’s a matter of eating enough to avoid weight loss.
In regards protein should I increase my egg yolk intake to get the recommended protein level?
Since I can’t get any sort of nuts Im thinking on eating some chickpeas maybe 100 to 200g a day to increase protein and zinc levels; 9g of protein and 1.5mg of zinc per 100g?
Can a high selenium level cause acne as I do eat alot of bananas which I think do aggravate my acne but can’t be to sure but im going to cut down on to one a day instead of 3?
I eat a lot of avocado as well so was wondering if that’s ok? And is store bought uncooked refrigerated fish ok for eating raw? As there’s no sushi restaurants anywhere?
And finally I don’t have a juicer nor can afford a good one so im basically eating everything but it that ok as alot of people seem to just juice everything?
Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Newbie with a few questions
Sorry ment to include my diet. So far its 3 or 4 largish meals at breakfast - 8:00, lunch 13:00, dinner 18:00 after work, supper 20:00, with bananas, plums, grapes, coconut meat and oj been used as snacks in between and usually leave at least three yolks to be the last thing i eat during the day. Alos with work i could be home at half 5 in evening or 9 in evening which will require some planning as i was caught out this week.

Re: Newbie with a few questions
Im afraid its not really 100% raw, so, its not ok.MartyD wrote:I am using Tropicana smooth as my orange juice
What does it say on the box?
thats ok.Cant get unshelled brazil nuts or unshelled nuts of any kind
That depends, as it may be really high in selenium.but is coconut meat ok as I could eat up to 200g a day?
So, try to listen to your body if it really wants the coconut.
You dont need any water if you drink enough juice.Mineral water can be expensive enough
Filtering would be great, but its not really necessary. (neither is bioling).does filtering water work for drinking or what about filtering and boiling for washing your face?
Please leave your skin alone for a while.I always smear manuka honey on my face once a day after a hot compress, is this ok? I found its great for skin.
Just apply some oil to the skin after washing.
Yes, thats ok.In regards protein should I increase my egg yolk intake
Sufficient energy is key though.
You may add sugar to your juice.
No, not ok at all.Im thinking on eating some chickpeas maybe 100 to 200g a day to increase protein and zinc levels
no chickpeas whatsoever.
Increase your egg yolk intake instead.
Bananas are not high in selenium, but coconut is.Can a high selenium level cause acne as I do eat alot of bananas
But no, it cannot cause acne.
Tropicana juice can cause acne though.
Absolutely.I eat a lot of avocado as well so was wondering if that’s ok?
If the fish is fresh enough, yes.And is store bought uncooked refrigerated fish ok for eating raw?
what fish are you talking about?
Ive been using a hand juicer for many years.I don’t have a juicer nor can afford a good one
Try not to eat big meals, but lots of smaller meals.MartyD wrote:So far its 3 or 4 largish meals
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Just don't eat nuts then.MartyD wrote:Cant get unshelled brazil nuts or unshelled nuts of any kind
I use a cheap juicer which costs like $20.MartyD wrote:I don’t have a juicer nor can afford a good one
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Cheers for the replies there lads, much appreciated now,
Yeah ordered a cheap juicer today, should get it by friday.
With regards drinking tropocana smooth as orange juice.
So yeah i think ill be winding off the coconut meat especially after googling the effects of too much selenium.
Yeah started that now, just 2 medium to large meals for breakfast and lunch. The rest is snacked on every half hour or so.
Had a few other questions
Do you need to skin plums like other fruits?
Is there a limit on how much eggs you can eat everyday? im not going to go mad on eggs or anything!
Oh yeah regarding zinc levels, ah i notice that im only getting 7mg of zinc which is ok from what other people have been posting but i was reading on wikipedia (great source i know) that only 20 to 30% of zinc is actually absorbed into the body so does that reccomended level factor that in even though i know the old level was something like 2 to 5mg a day?
Also i was thinking about maybe going on complete acne cures 4 step programme which seems to agree with a lot of what wai says, and some of the stuff i think is pretty sound logic, especially the fact that years of poor health and diet could leave the kidneys and liver in poor condition which they then struggle to filter and remove toxins which could be just dumped into the lymph system to the skin, http://www.absoluteacneinfo.com/guide.html, so has anyone ever used this or can it be combined with the wai diet as, improving diet is one of the steps? I know theres a lot of natural supplements to get which do have to taken out of the gelatine capsules and they can be pretty expensive.
Thats all i can think of for now, thanks again in advance for any replies.
Thats all i can think of for now.
Yeah ordered a cheap juicer today, should get it by friday.
With regards drinking tropocana smooth as orange juice.
It says 100% squeesed and not from concentrate which you can clearly taste in the juice. But not sure how to tell if its pasturised or not and would it matter that much? but ive ordered the juicer regardless.RRM wrote:Im afraid its not really 100% raw, so, its not ok.
What does it say on the box?
Yeah was looking at that in the nutrient calculator, i thought it was bananas that was giving the high selenium rateRRM wrote:That depends, as it may be really high in selenium.
So, try to listen to your body if it really wants the coconut.
So yeah i think ill be winding off the coconut meat especially after googling the effects of too much selenium.
Its just tesco in store salmon, packaged, non smoked. Yeah it says farmed in Norway so guessing thats out of the question, but its actually hard to get raw fresh fish where im living, people have a dendancy to freeze everything over here but going to keep looking.RRM wrote: If the fish is fresh enough, yes.
what fish are you talking about?
[/quote]RRM wrote:Try not to eat big meals, but lots of smaller meals.
Yeah started that now, just 2 medium to large meals for breakfast and lunch. The rest is snacked on every half hour or so.
Had a few other questions

If it doesnt very specifically claim its absolutely 100% raw,MartyD wrote:not sure how to tell if its pasturised or not and would it matter that much?
its definitely not.
And yes, it matters A LOT regarding acne.
Regarding acne, you need to be very strict.
Once the acne is gone, you can start experimenting though.
No, thats okay to eat.RRM wrote: Its just tesco in store salmon, packaged, non smoked. Yeah it says farmed in Norway so guessing thats out of the question
If the fish was really fresh when frozen, its not a problem to eat it.its actually hard to get raw fresh fish where im living, people have a dendancy to freeze everything over here
just thaw it in hand-warm water.
Yes, you better skin all fruits.Do you need to skin plums like other fruits?
If the fruit is too small (strawberries etc), you can use vinegar to wash them.
Yes, initially, there is; 5 egg yolks a day.Is there a limit on how much eggs you can eat everyday?
Once your skin is clear, you can start experimenting with eating more.
Yes, it does not change the recommended levels.i was reading on wikipedia (great source i know) that only 20 to 30% of zinc is actually absorbed into the body so does that reccomended level factor that in
All nutrients are absorbed only partially. The RDAs take that into account.
One programme at the time. Also i was thinking about maybe going on complete acne cures 4 step programme
And when you do a programme, you need to do it 100% right.
You did not do this diet 100% right yet, which is absolutely essential. (i know from experience).
Your kidneys and liver are doing fine.especially the fact that years of poor health and diet could leave the kidneys and liver in poor condition which they then struggle to filter and remove toxins
Acne is not the result of poor kidney / liver functioning.
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Cheers again RRM for the reply now.
Made the changes you recomended, havent got a juicer though, got lost in post or something so ive resorted to real old school methods of juicing by hand.
Have seen a lot of yellow heads and pimples in the last week which im guessing is good and a sign the diet is working although i have lost a bit of weight but only 3 lbs since i went on the diet 3 weeks ago and seems to be stabilising now .
Ah a few more questions have sprung to mind now,
Is there a problem with taking a lot of olive oil, i mean i do take up to 120ml of the stuff a day, its extra virgin and says, "first cold pressed on it"?
From this is there a problem if your ratio for fats to carbohydrates isnt 1:2 as i do eat more fats than carbohydrates but im guessing it would be worse the other way round?
Also i read that doing cardiovascular exercise can be bad as i do a bit of cycling now and again, maybe twice a week notching up about 60 to 70km so should i cut down on this, or just make sure ive enough juice for energy with me?
Is eating seaweed ok as i live on the coast and its usually something my family eat, we do pick it and dry it ourselves and it usually centres on two kinds dillisk (dulce) and carrageen moss (irish moss) but unsure on nutriton, tried researching it although i know its a good souce of iron and iodine, but is it ok now and again?
Ah i suppose as well as that im under a bit of stress from work and my living habits dont help either as im currently living on my own (By no choice of my own, was in a panic to get a place and well got stuck with it) but only to july, but things like stress, lonlyness and depression can cause acne as well?
Thats all for now and thanks again in advance.

Re: Newbie with a few questions
There is no real issue with more oil other than you might feel less energetic. the more active you are, the higher the ratio fat:carbs should be. Exercise is fine, keep replenishing energy when needed. I would be very strict until your acne is completely gone, after that the seaweed should be okay to experiment with.
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Me again, just a few more questions, hope i am not bothering you guys with all sorts of stupid questions but as my grandfather always said, better to ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake!
So here they are
Ah how important is it to make sure all fruits have properly ripened?
If you are adding sugat to OJ and OO, what type, like ordinary refined granulated white sugar?
I saw a lot on toothpaste and youse telling people not to use it, but never seen why?
Also, a bit of a dampener but Im heading to Lanzarote in two weeks for 7 days for a wedding and my parents seem to think that if i go from 100% on this diet to normal, ill get massive stomach cramps and fill up like a balloon, so is there any problem with say going on the diet, stoping for a week and continuing?
Also with regards to Lanzarote, i am very worried in terms of the sun and how it can just mask acne only to let it come back with a vengance so is there any natural sun block out there or what kind of sun block should i be using?
With regards sleep, is it best to sleep on your back as i just had an appifany that im lying on the side of my face which is rubbing against the pillow all night and that cant really be good for acne, i mean i know the damage that can come from just itching acne?
Once again thanks in advance for all responses, I really do appreciate it lads, really.

So this essentially means i shoul be eating more fats to carbs if im a bit more active. Can do.Oscar wrote:the more active you are, the higher the ratio fat:carbs should be.

Re: Newbie with a few questions
Hm, I think Oscar meant the more active you are the higher the ratio carb:fat , that is the more active you are the more carbs you need and less fat.. That's how I understood it anyway.
Refined sugars.
Yes, I think there is a good chance you will have stomach cramps, gasses, and bad shit.. to say it frankly.. I notice when I deviate to eat some oven baked potato, or crisps or hm.. a few pieces of chocolate cake I pay the price.. Not to mention that one time I had bulgogi (korean cooked meat), my stomach was really creating an uprising.. So I think you should only do small and wise deviations I think.. like some safe stuff.. and not so much at one meal.
Some say extra virgin coconut oil (cold pressed etc.) protects the skin. That is not really science I think though.. They say it is supposed to give you a nice tan without any redness.. Which I guess could support their claims.. I am trying it out.. but just in quite weak sunlight.. Lanzarote.. that's canary islands right? Perhaps better use some stronger stuff with high protection factor and stay in the shade as much as possible.
I think you can sleep however you want, it doesn't affect the acne very much.. Better to sleep well.. in a position that you are comfortable with.
Hehe.. I'm a gal.. but never mind.. They guys will soon give their views I think.
Have fun in Lanzarote.. must be baking hot there now.^^

Re: Newbie with a few questions
Oh right, i just thought seen as fats were more a slow burning energy youd need them more for exercise, but ah well i was wrong!abicahsoul wrote:I think Oscar meant the more active you are the higher the ratio carb:fat , that is the more active you are the more carbs you need and less fat.
well I did cheat for the first time on this diet last friday when i had a ckicken curry with white rice and chips but never got any gas or stomach cramps but yeah this stopping and starting the diet has me a bit worried now and i can only imagine my face when i come back not just from food but drink as im in a big drinking family and my cousin is marrying into a bigger drinking family so yeah a lot of alcahol is expected!MartyD wrote:Yes, I think there is a good chance you will have stomach cramps, gasses, and bad shit
In regards the sun and acne, is it really that bad, bear in mind this will be my first trip to a warm country, mind you the temperature never really exceeds 25 degrees celcius in lanzarote (which is in the Canary Islands) its a very temperate climate and its suppose to get rather cold in the evening as well.
Oh crap, no offence intended now, im not a sexist or anything i swear, haha, im really not!abicahsoul wrote:Hehe.. I'm a gal.. but never mind.. They guys will soon give their views I think
Hopefully for my skin it wont be baking but yeah will hopefully enjoy it!abicahsoul wrote:Have fun in Lanzarote.. must be baking hot there now.^^
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Heh I'm also heading to the Canarian in a week :)
I myself am strongly against sun creams.. not sure why I've never liked using them. Too much chemicals, greasiness, etc. I'd rather take different preventive measures: go to swimming in the morning/evening (some sun is healthy ;)). Otherwise, especially around noon simply wear white hat/clothes, that should do the trick.

Thanks for the reply there, yeah will be keeping this in mind, let me know how you get on anyway, hopefully it wont do your skin any damage.dime wrote:go to swimming in the morning/evening (some sun is healthy ). Your right in saying a bit of sun is good for the skin, might even do mine a bit of good, i hope!
Re: Newbie with a few questions
Your grandfather said a wise thing there
Yep, my mistake, I meant carbs:fat ratio should be higher the more active one gets.
When longer on this diet, skin doesn't get burned that easily, but for you, yeah, better safe than sorry.
The benefit of toothpaste has never been proven. Plus toothpaste contains an abrasive, which can only be harmful, especially on a diet like this one.
