Moving and converting/upgrading the board

Post by Oscar »

Tonight I will try to convert the board to phpBB3 and move it to a new location. The board will be accessible through the website (WaiWorld) or directly via WaiTalk.com. During the whole process the board will be closed.

Of course I hope everything will go smoothly and the inconvenience will be minor. If I do not succeed, the board will be open again on the same location as it is now.

Okay, I discovered we don't have database CREATE rights, so I have to contact the provider during office hours. No convert and move tonight! :(

Well, apparently I can use a different prefix to "create" a new database within the same physical database, so tonight try #2! :)

Well, that took longer than I thought...
The converting went pretty fast, then I took some time checking the settings (which probably still need some tweaking).
Moving the boards was very easy (or so I thought), until I couldn't adjust the domain and cookie settings. It took me a long time to figure out what was wrong, but in the end I found it. :D

Let me know if there are things that aren't right and/or need to be adjusted/changed.

ok first problem: bbcode in reply is OFF and I can't turn it on so it must be board settings

testing if bold works: hello [b] hello [/b]

Can you check if it's on by default in your user settings?

styles/prosilver/imageset/site_logo.gif

Oscar is it ok if I make a replacement site logo instead of that default phpBB creating communities default one? if the design is good enough of course (I've been using photoshop for 8 years haha)

Or even make it into a full header logo instead of that default blue one, of course the logo would match the current color scheme and be very generic for future skins.. unless you're a graphic designer yourself oscar or like the default?

:::

I checked to see if BBcode was on in my board preferences, it is, and still isn't enabled on these replies, maybe it is only disabled for non-admins?

ALSO: for new users this may be confusing but people will catch on quick (it's quite nice), when writing a reply to a topic and someone replies before you, and you hit submit, it will show you the new post and keep your written in data, so you can accomodate the new post in your reply, so it works great but internet noobies might think it didn't 'send' and that there's an error - there's not.

Be my guest ;)
No, I don't like the default stuff, and it already crossed my mind to change it.
I'm an amateur web designer, but I've enough to do already (I also want to make a new design for the site, for instance), so it's all yours.

Hmmm, I'll have a look.
