Why Are Thin People Not Fat [Documentary by BBC]

Post by Emeira »

Maybe someone will find this interesting.

The subjects were told to eat at least double their usual calories and to avoid exercise for four weeks. The target energy intake for men was 5,000 kcal and 3500 for women. The purpose was to find out whether naturally thin people would start gaining weight, given a sufficiently large amount of calories. It was no exercise in healthy eating either: the menu included processed, calorie-dense foods such as cakes and milkshakes. Precisely the kind of thing that should make one fat.

p.s at the end of experiment one man has gained muscle mass (not fat) without exercising.

We all exercise, even when we don't call it exercise.
We all walk, get up from chairs, maybe even climb stairs, lift stuff
etc.
So, we ALL exercise.
Gaining muscle mass is about a number of factors.
One of these factors is preventing muscle loss through the conversion of muscle protein into available energy.
Consuming more energy inhibits the breakdown of muscle tissue for energy.
Hence muscle gain without (increasing) exercise.

I haven't seen everything yet, but I noticed that they only took test subjects from a certain age group.

Hmm, this is really interesting. Maybe it has to do with genetics and different metabilisms? But, I think, even if you are skinny, you can still be very unhealthy on the inside.
