Alcohol allowed?
Is having a drink occasionally allowed after the sample diet? I don't drink much, but I usually it'd be nice to know if I can accept a glass of wine when offered.
Ah, my bad, I just noticed there was already a thread on wine... er , although it's more about the bible than anything, so I guess we can start over. I didn't mean wine in particular (being french, that's just what's offered to me everywhere I go) - I might have a creme de menthe at Christmas, a glass of champagne for New Year's, a cold beer on a hot summer day etc... ;o)
Alcohol gives you a big sugar boost, right? So I guess a source of fat is needed?

Well a big part of this diet, for me at least, has been maintaining my blood sugar, and alcohol makes it go through the roof, so I've been trying to avoid, though I cave now and then. Then again it's probably fine for others, I'm just extremely sensitive to these things. Every time my blood sugar rises I feel sick. It used to be bad enough that I didn't want to eat at all, but now I've got it pretty much under control.
Alcohol?
Can anyone explain to me the scientific reason why alcohol would cause acne?
Re: Alcohol?
It increases testosteron.
Re: Alcohol?
Wouldn't that only be problematic if sebum canals are being pinched off? That would only increase sebum production.dime wrote:It increases testosteron.
Re: Alcohol?
I think it is because of the water retention the next day.
I don't feel like alcohol increases sebum...

Re: Alcohol?
I think alcohol causes dehydration, not retention? Which is why it's good for every glass of alcohol to drink a couple of glasses of water (depends on alcohol percentage though).
Re: Alcohol?
I have swollen face after drinking alcohol the next day.
But I also feel dehydrated...

Re: Alcohol?
Alcohol may cause both water retention and dehydration, locally, indeed.
There is also an influence on hormones though.
Either way it can cause acne, though (by far) most people who try 'clean alcohol'
(not 100% pure, of course, but drinks that contain little other stuff),
such as vodka mixed with oj, will experience no adverse effects.

I think you can get adverse effects from vodka
So my water retention the next morning may be because of the beer, and not because of the alcohol ?
Is that right ?

Of course you can, thats why i wrote "most".Kasper wrote:Regarding acne, right ?Either way it can cause acne, though (by far) most people who try 'clean alcohol'
