says this:
"Because wheat contains opioid peptides, priests in ancient Egypt used wheat to hallucinate, and in bandages, to ease the pain of a wound. "
from what I know opiates don't usually cause hallucinations, but rather euphoria. How much wheat would one need to eat to hallucinate?
opioids make you hallucinate?

This is correct, opiates does not typically cause hallucination.
I think maybe this is what Wai/RRM is thinking of:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergot
The Rye Ergot is a fungi that grows on rye (and possibly other grains, like wheat, I dont know) and it produces ergot alkaloids which are related to the famous tryptamin LSD - acid. This can indeed cause hallucinations.
