I've been strict Wai for about 9 Months, and it saved my life. I never post any questions or concerns because everything I ever want to is answered already.
But one article that I read the other day, kind of made me wonder if it was going to affect me down the road. Just wondering what others thoughts on the issue are. Thanks alot....

I've been unable to find much info, but currently all imported mangoes in the US must be irradiated. The difference between untreated mangoes and irradiated mangoes is quite clear: irradiation really is a kind of cooking.RRM wrote:Yes, its worrying as far as I'm concerned, but we first should try to find out what exactly happens during this procedure.
When I have time, I will look into this matter.
Any other info available already?
Here in the US, we have so much fruit produced locally in California and Florida it won't be too much of a problem. I think no matter what, you'll be able to tell what is fresh and what has been irradiated.
From a different thread:
Can you find out about the australian regulations regarding imported fruits?

I know they apply radiation to lots of tropic fruits in the US, but i dont know about Australia.Kookaburra wrote:I am in Australia.RRM wrote:Are you in the US?Kookaburra wrote:So do you think the frozen durian was irradiated?
Then it might very well be.

I've noticed recently that the mangoes in the US are "Aphis Hot Water Treated." Not sure if this is better than being irradiated, but I found an article about it at:

Either way, I'm still buying boxes of mangoes to make my mango/papaya/orange/avocado smoothies. Yummy!!

Thank you.
Here's the FDA link.

So, the fruits are submerged in 50° Celsius hot water, and sometimes hotter.
The FDA claims the pulp will get as warm as 25° Celsius.
Thats not too bad, so no worries, i think.
