i eat a lot of avocados and mangoes and am worried that perhaps they have been irradiated and might cause acne. does anyone else live in the us and eat a lot of avocados- with no problem?
i cant seem to find an actual list of brands or distributors that irradiates its produce... if anyone knows anythign about this information- id really appreciate it.

Re: fruit irradiation... and about avocadoes
Don't fruits nad veggies from this country also undergo that process? not as a rule maybe maybe but in some cases....I think I might try to always to buy like California avacados atleast....but I will be inquiring with even those companies as to their practices....It is a shame how health concerns fall to the wasteside when coming up against the mighty dollar.
Re: fruit irradiation... and about avocadoes
I've heard of this process before just really haven't given it much consideration as of late...I just finished reading the rest of the article...that's interesting about the cold and heat treatment for keeping pests at bay regarding produce.
Re: fruit irradiation... and about avocadoes
yes, they do use it in this country, but i dont know which companies do any which dont.
its also unclear as to how the radiation effects the produce in regards to dirty protein. im going to try and do a little more reseach on it myself. i have a strong background in nuclear physics, but that doesnt really help me understand the biology at all. ill try and slog through it. let me know if you find out anything!
i wish i could afford to only buy organic produce! i spend way too much money on food as it is!

Ok, so this has nothing to do with the topic we were just on but hey...(gotta love copy and paste) :p DID YOU KNOW?
In the past, the avocado had a well-entrenched reputation for inducing sexual prowess and wasn't purchased or consumed by any person wishing to protect their image from slanderous assault. Growers had to sponsor a public relations campaign to dispel the ill-founded reputation before avocados became popular.
Avocados got their name from the Spanish explorers. They couldn't pronounce the Aztec work for the fruit, know as ahuacatl, "testicle," because of its shape. The Spanish called the aguacate, leading to the guacamole we know today.
Fallbrook is known as the Avocado Capital of the
World and hosts an annual Avocado Festival.
Avocados must reach full maturity before they are picked, however, they do not soften on the tree. The tree can actually be used as a storage unit by keeping the fruit on the tree for many months after maturing.
